Being a Flight Escort is just one of the ways you can support rescue dogs when you visit Oaxaca. Here are some suggestions for getting involved.

Hike with rescue dogs

The beautiful Sierra Madre hills look (and smell!) even better when you’ve got a furry friend or ten to explore with.  These folks organize group hikes or can hook you up with an enthusiastic rescue dog to keep you company for a shorter walk.

Adopt a rescue dog

Your Oaxaca trip could be the beginning of a beautiful friendship. Refugios across Oaxaca are working hard to rescue and rehome neglected and abandoned dogs. If you’re looking for a companion to bring a little joy into your life, these organizations can make it happen.

Make a donation to help rescue dogs

Some rescuers are entirely dependent on the generosity of donors. Some run creative side hustles to raise funds. The sad truth for all is that there are always more street dogs than they have capacity to help. Your donations will directly support ongoing rescue work, as well as sterilization and education initiatives to reduce the numbers of homeless and neglected animals.

Foster a rescue dog while you're in Oaxaca

Staying one more or more in Oaxaca?  If your dueño is willing to accept pets, fostering a rescue dog is a great way to help rescuers while enriching your stay in the city.

Foster families offer a crucial opportunity for rescue dogs to adapt to life in a caring home. If you love dogs but are unable to make the long-term commitment of adoption, fostering allows you to help build the confidence of a dog who has not experienced human affection before, and prepare them for their new, happier life ahead.
